Choose SwimWithAmy for the best American Red Cross training and tips on how to be safe in, on and around the water! The American Red Cross offers comprehensive, developmentally appropriate Swimming and Water Safety courses that teach you, your children or other friends and family members how to swim skillfully and safely, and think and act safely in, on and around the water. The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisite.With years of certified experience in the aquatics industry as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, and Aquatics Supervisor, Amy now offers the opportunity for Private or Semi-Private Swim Lessons for all Ages!
At this time it is mandatory to provide a safe and adequate pool for your lessons. The Red Cross recommends maintaining the water temperature between 83 & 88 degrees.
Swimming Classes Offered:
Parent & Child Aquatics
Developed for children 6 months to 3 years of age. Parents and children learn together through two fun-filled levels to increase children's comfort in the water and build a foundation of basic aquatic and safety skills. Skills include water entry, bubble blowing, kicking, buoyancy, underwater exploration and more. Once children can perform basic skills without parental assistance, they may begin Preschool Aquatics courses.
- Level 1 - Introduces basic skills, including safety topics to parents and children.
- Level 2 - Builds on the skills introduced in Level 1, with participants improving these skills and learning more advanced skills.
Preschool Aquatics
NEW program developed for children 3 years to 5 years of age. Three fun, age-appropriate levels teach basic aquatic safety and survival skills to increase children's comfort level in and around the water.
- Level 1 - Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills. All skills are done with support.
- Level 2 - Helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around the water. All skills are done with support.
- Level 3 - Helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around the water. All skills are done without support.
Learn-to-Swim
The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes start with the most basic of swimming skills and advances through six levels. Developed for students ages 6 and up. The six progressive levels help swimmers of varying ages and abilities develop their water safety, survival and swim skills.The objective is to teach participants to swim and to be safe in, on and around the water.
- Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills: helps participants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.
- Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills: gives participants success with fundamental skills.
- Level 3 - Stroke Development: builds on the previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice in deeper water.
- Level 4 - Stroke Improvement: develops confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills.
- Level 5 - Stroke Refinement: provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
- Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency: refines the strokes so participants swim them with ease. Level 6 features menu options to prepare participants for advanced activities, including the Water Safety Instructor coure, competitive swimming or diving. The options for Level 6 include: Fitness Swimmer, Personal Water Safety or Fundementals of Diving.
Teens and Adult Swim Programs
- Learn-to-Swim: Did you know that swim classes aren't just for kids? Red Cross Learn-to-Swim features six progressive levels for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Plus, level 6 has "menu" options for advanced swimmers, including Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving and Fitness Swimming.
- Water Safety Instructor: (ages 16+) Certification not yet offered through Swim With Amy, but if you want basic training so you can teach swim lessons, contact me. For certifications, please contact your local Red Cross chapter or check back in the future for updates.
- Lifeguarding: (ages 15+) Certification not yet offered through Swim With Amy. I offer lifeguard training to brush up on your skills if you need to get certified or recertified. Check back in the future for updates.
